Aelia Luxury Suites is a small hotel with only 30 rooms, making it a serene bolthole on this popular island. It is almost exactly in the centre of Santorini, making it quick to reach anywhere on the island, described by The Daily Telegraph as “one of the spectacles of the Med”.

Each suite is inspired by the traditional Cycladic style, using chic furnishings and muted colours. This 5-star deal covers higher-than-entry-level accommodation, in a spacious Superior Suite that measures 35 square metres. It comes with pool views from the private balcony, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Once you’re done with breakfast,  you can relax on a padded lounger around the pool complete with four Jacuzzis. Your half-board basis also includes daily dinner at the hotel’s restaurant that serves Mediterranean specialities, using fresh produce.

In-suite massage, wine and food tours, boat excursions along the dramatic volcanic coastline, or watersports on a beach can be arranged for a fee.

About the area
The hotel is in Karterados village, which offers a more authentic experience than busier resorts on the island. You can eat out at family-owned restaurants along winding streets filled with bougainvillea, or stop by a traditional bakery that sells fresh bread, savoury pastries, and sweet treats.

A free shuttle runs to the postcard-perfect capital, Fira, every evening, so you can easily admire the stunning sunsets. During the day you can either walk 25 minutes, or hop into a taxi that takes five minutes to get there.

There’s also a footpath that leads down to Exo Gialos, a remote black-sand beach with impressive basalt rock formations—this is a slightly longer 40-minute walk. The livelier beaches on the southeast coast, at the villages of Kamari or Perissa, are 10 minutes away by car.
